Reiki is an energy healing technique which helps the recipient to release stress, tension, anxiety & promotes deep rest.
Reiki was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 1900's. The word Reiki is derived from the Japanese word 'rei' meaning 'Universal' & 'ki' which refers to the life force energy that flows through all living things.
Reiki is now used all over the world and is routinely practiced in many hospitals and hospices as a form of complimentary therapy.
Reiki is completely safe and does not interfere with any other therapy or treatment that you may be receiving. It aids the healing process by bringing the recipient back into balance, by promoting deep relaxation & by guiding them out of the stress response and into the relaxation response.
What to expect during your Reiki Energy Healing session?
When you arrive you will be welcomed and have a brief consultation with your practitioner. You may be asked to advise the practitioner you reason for visiting that day, if you have not discussed this already. This is so that they can tailor your session to better serve you. That being said, you do not need to have a specific reason, you may just feel you would like to treat yourself to some deep rest & relaxation.
During your session you will remain fully clothed. You will lay down on a plinth (massage table) and be made really comfortable with blankets to cover you and pillows to support you. The practitioner will encourage you to close your eyes so that you can focus on the feelings in the body & completely relax the mind. You may prefer to use an eye pillow or cloth over your eyes to help you to let go completely.
The practitioner will then work their way around your body using specific hand positions, either placing them on you or hovering them over you. During this time you may feel sensations of heat, coldness, or tingling. The length of time the practitioner spends in each position is intuitive to the practitioner. Some areas may warrant more time than others and this will vary from session to session.
As the recipient, you can help yourself benefit from the experience by allowing yourself to completely relax. Feel yourself drift through the different states of consciousness, in fact, you may even fall asleep.
Sessions normally last 1 hour in total. When your session is over, your practitioner will gently wake you & give you time to become fully aware. They might offer you a glass of water and give you a moment to feel grounded again. You may want to chat about your experience or you may just want to process it quietly in your own time. Please feel free to take as much time as you need and ask any questions you have before you leave.
